About Us
Our
dogs are first and foremost DOGS that must be able to run, play
and romp. When you come to DocMar on any given day, you certainly
won’t see a bunch of goldens lying quietly in crates all
day long. Nope – you see a bunch of bouncing happy golden
retrievers that are thrilled to welcome you with one big slurp
to the face (ok maybe two) and they’ll drop a ball for
you to throw. It is your job to hurry up and get it before
someone else steals it!
These
“show” dogs are regularly seen sopping wet, covered
with mud and stickers as they romp through our 120 acres west
of Duluth. Back in town at home, the end of a good day produces
relaxed snoring dogs (now happily in their crates) that are
too tired to give you a good night “woof”. Our dogs
are our companions and part of our family. While having all
of our dogs in the bedroom at night is not necessarily the best
way to get a good night’s sleep, you will see at least
one or two pushing John out of his spot each night and somebody
else vying for his or her turn next.

The cabin is also a favorite place of the
dogs. Swimming in the summer, (rescuing the water skiers), and cross country skiing across the lake in the winter.

Frequently asked Questions:
So is Jane a Doctor? No –
in fact, I'm a nurse, and I work only when I have to – my
last name is Docter.
What
does John have to do with DocMar? John is A-#1 pooper
scooper! He’s a really helpful kennel boy and a huge fan
of puppies. He’s been known a number of times to say,
“Jane - can we keep him?” It takes a special kind
of husband to help out when we leave him alone with 8 dogs and
a litter of puppies, so we can go to a show, but he does it!
What’s the “Mar” part
of DocMar? Shari Marshik is my sidekick that has cheerfully
scooped poop, slopped cement for kennel posts and hauled more
crates in and out of show sites than one could count. Her true
love in the dog show world is obedience, but she has done some
showing in conformation for me. Right now she is taking a bit
of a break to have a baby (the 2 legged kind). She has been
a wonderful supporter and is a true inspiration to me.
Isn’t Duluth almost in Canada?
Well not quite – it’s about 4 hours south of the
Canadian Border, but we’re big fans of making the trek
to Canada. The shows in Canada are a great time and we have
made lots of wonderful friends there. Duluth is located on the
shores of beautiful
Lake Superior in the northeast part of Minnesota.
Jacqui who?????
Who is Jacqui? Well...........Jacqui is the most
wonderful person in the world!! Jacqui helps us out here
at DocMar by coming the days that I work. She spends time
with all the doggies, brushing, playing ball, keeping things
clean and orderly. We couldn't do it with out her help!
Rebel now lives with Jacqui, and he is in HOG (DOG) HEAVEN!!!
Thanks Jacqui!!
